ORGY at the Whisky A-Go-Go

Remember back in the late 90's when that one band covered Blue Monday by New Order? And remember that it sounded pretty bad ass? Me too. Orgy has been my favorite guilty pleasure band since that song came out and I've never regretted it since. Death pop music is pretty awesome. In fact, they've remained on my unofficial top-5 Best-Ever Live Show list since I saw them in 2004 with almost all the original members. Fucking AMAZING! I remember being pretty bummed that I wasn't able to be in the photo pit like all the pros with their cameras were, but completely enlightened by their performance, nonetheless. Fast-foward to about 10 years later, I finally got the chance to photograph them. Granted, the lineup is significantly different, but the energy is still there, and so is the irreplaceable Jay Gordon. Good enough for me.

The only bummer I encountered was not bringing my Speedlite. I totally forgot how erratic their stage lighting is and it was almost impossible to meter anything, let alone capture something of remarkable quality. I also wasn't prepared for the Whisky to be as liberal with still photography as they were, unlike most venues with their No Flash/3 Song Rule.

Vampires Are Everywhere opened for Orgy, so I got a few shots of them too. Photos posted on my Flickr:
